This was
our second trip to Zoo Negara as volunteers. Similar to the first day, we
gathered and departed together early morning. This time, I was assigned to the
reptile park with four of my group members.
We all wore boots and get ready
to work =)
Basically, our tasks were swept the
tortoise park, feed them, and clean the snake museum. At that time, we found
out that the Zoo Negara are going to undergo a huge renovation soon so the
zookeepers were getting rid of the old stuffs which were not useful anymore. We
had the opportunity to ride a lorry while helping them moved the aquarium. This
was our first time standing at an open space of the lorry with all those
aquariums. We all felt really excited just like kids, haha...However, the most unique
job we did was scrubbing the shell of the 100 ++ years old tortoise!
In
conclusion, I think volunteering in Zoo Negara help us to accumulate a wide
range of experiences. Besides, it exposed us to people and situations that we
would not usually encounter in our daily work. These experiences helped us to
develop our capacity to cope with crisis, difficult and frustrating situations,
and learnt how to manage time, people and resources to the best of our ability.
Besides, it also helped us to develop a high perseverance, commitment and
cooperation to achieve our mission.
